MULTISCALE APPROACHES IN DIGITAL GEOSCIENCES: FROM HYDROCARBON RESERVOIR OPTIMIZATION TO CO2 GEOLOGICAL STORAGE VIA HIGH-PERFORMANCE COMPUTING – CASE STUDY

Valentin-Paul TUDORACHE1, Gheorghe BULIGA2

Abstract. This scientific paper developed under the auspices of the AOSR, analyzes the fundamental role of digital geosciences in identifying and modeling hydrocarbon reservoirs. The discovery of natural gas and oil deposits requires an advanced understanding of the nature of both source and reservoir rocks. Recently, in a global context, the integration of high-performance digital technologies has enabled the detailed simulation of the genesis and migration processes of fossil fluids. The use of supercomputers facilitates the construction of three-dimensional outcrop models, whose extrapolation to deep-seated structures allows for the precise identification of productive layers located several kilometers underground. This approach significantly reduces geological uncertainty, providing rigorous geometric visualizations of reservoirs and thus contributing to the efficiency of exploration and exploitation activities.

Keywords: rock-reservoir system, multiscale modeling, digital geoscience, geological storage, HPC simulation.
