Abstract. Neutron noise-stochastic flux fluctuations in reactor core assemblies encodes mechanical vibrations, coolant dynamics, and tampering events. Extracting security-relevant features with neuromorphic software is cutting edge monitoring technology for SMR’s and pulsed neutron sources. Here I propose an improved oversampled FFT to refine frequency resolution and amplitude estimation of mechanical resonances (0.001 – 100 Hz), mitigating picket-fence effects of phase-noised signals. Additionally, I propose capturing non-stationary transients (accidental reactivity insertions, void collapse) with running wavelet-transforms at user-defined frequencies. These spectral and transient features can subsequently be encoded into event streams for NARX predictors.

Nuclear Security enhancement (fuel movement, control rod tampering) and Industrial Security monitoring (spent fuel pools, cask storage) are first line applications of the improvements – with the possibility to construct 2D spectral evolution and animated spectro-temporal playback (planned).
