Abstract. Intellectual property (IP) has become a strategic resource for fostering innovation, enhancing institutional competitiveness, and generating sustainable value within healthcare organizations. Effective intellectual property management facilitates the protection, translation, and commercialization of biomedical research outcomes, while promoting technology transfer and supporting evidence-based healthcare innovation. In an era of rapid scientific and technological advancement, robust IP management frameworks are increasingly recognized as essential for improving organizational performance and strengthening healthcare systems (World Intellectual Property Organization. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the role of intellectual property management in healthcare organizations from a holistic perspective. It examines the fundamental concepts of intellectual property in medicine, the legal mechanisms available for protecting biomedical innovations, and the relationship between intellectual property management, innovation capacity, and organizational performance. Furthermore, the review explores how strategic IP management contributes to organizational efficiency and effectiveness by facilitating knowledge transfer, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, encouraging research commercialization, and supporting long-term institutional sustainability. The analysis integrates evidence from the scientific literature together with reports published by the World Intellectual Property Organization, the World Health Organization, and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, providing an up-to-date overview of current approaches to innovation management in healthcare.
